About Us

M.S. 582, The Magnet School for Multimedia Technology and Urban Planning, located in East Williamsburg, New York, serves students from grades 6 to 8. Our educational philosophy is grounded in the concepts of experience, exposure, and discovery, and we are dedicated to creating opportunities for our students to engage in these areas meaningfully.

We offer a variety of educational settings to meet the diverse needs of our students, including general education, Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT), and self-contained classrooms. Our Special Education Teacher Support Services (SETSS) program provides both in-class support and pull-out services, ensuring that all students receive the individualized attention they need to succeed. Additionally, we have in-house service providers for speech, physical therapy (PT), and occupational therapy (OT), as well as comprehensive counseling services to support students' academic, social, and emotional development.

Beyond our robust core curriculum, M.S. 582 offers specialized programs in technology, hydroponics, music, and art, where students can develop their skills through hands-on learning and creative projects. Our state-of-the-art fabrication lab, equipped with advanced tools like 3-D printers, engravers, and laser cutters, allows students to bring their innovative ideas to life, learning practical applications of design and engineering concepts. Additionally, our eighth-grade students can challenge themselves with advanced level Regents courses including Algebra I, Living Environment, and U.S. History, earning high school credits and gaining exposure to rigorous academic standards. These opportunities help students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for college and career readiness.

Our extracurricular activities are designed to foster diverse interests and skills, featuring options such as chess, cooking, crochet, debate, fabrication, library, student government, robotics, and yoga. These programs take place as lunch clubs and after-school programs, providing students with numerous opportunities to explore their passions and develop new talents. By offering such a wide range of activities, we are committed to educating the whole child, ensuring that each student has the chance to grow intellectually, socially, and emotionally.

In addition, we provide a comprehensive seasonal sports program, which includes baseball, basketball, cheerleading, flag football, soccer, softball, track, volleyball, and wrestling. Our sports programs emphasize the importance of being a student-athlete, balancing academic achievement with physical development. These competitive, high-engagement activities foster team and community building, helping students develop leadership skills, resilience, and a sense of camaraderie. Through participation in these programs, students learn the value of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance, all while staying active and healthy.

M.S. 582 values community engagement and partnership, collaborating with both School Settlement and Grand Street Settlement. School Settlement supports our five-day afterschool program, enriching student experiences beyond the classroom. Grand Street Settlement provides resources such as dedicated school counselors, family support services, and assistance in social and emotional learning. These partnerships ensure comprehensive support for our students and their families, fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment.

Students choose M.S. 582 because we offer a unique blend of rigorous academics, innovative programs, and extensive extracurricular activities, all within a supportive community framework. Our commitment to experiential learning, coupled with our state-of-the-art facilities and strong community partnerships, prepares students for success in high school and beyond. Join us at M.S. 582, where education is an adventure in experience, exposure, and discovery.
